Fast! Or Slow….

Like most of you, I regularly read a number of publications to stay on top on world affairs, business trends, etc. Recently I read two magazines back to back, and what I encountered in the process was eye-opening!

The first magazine is called "Entrepreneur". Because it's dedicated to chronicling the hottest trends and breakthroughs in the world of 21st Century "Treps", it is very fast paced and chocked full of the latest things people have figured out to do to make money off your use of your smart phone. In addition there are also franchises for this and that "food truck", pet pampering service, or diapers for pet chickens (No joke, there was actually a feature article on this last one.) "Entrepreneur" is written with the "20 Somethings" in mind, and is filled with stories on how this or that college student made a gazillion dollars sitting in his or her dorm room, seemingly in two weeks time. One of the key ingredients in every "success story" seems to be how fast this economic juggernaut traveled. Most accounts give the impression that vey little that is worth doing in today's economy need take more than a few weeks. In the latest issue there was a statement that the time from idea to market for one group of "Treps" is geared to be two weeks! I confess to being both fascinated and frightened reading about this sort of blazing speed. There is so much energy released in these pages, sometimes I almost literally shake with reader's anxiety as I start a new article.

My second read was "Writer's Digest". Even the name is a contrast to the pace of "Entrepreneur". After all, if you are going to digest something, that takes time. While "Entrepreneur" blazed, "Writer's Digest" moved very slowly and methodically. A progression of authors spoke at some length about how long it took them to craft their tomes. One spent five years, another seven. But the prize went to a recent NYT Best Selling non-fiction author, David Cullen. He labored ten years to write his award winner. A quote by him underscores the contrast of approach between my two reads.

"We live in a rushed world. Everyone's doing things faster. Do something slow, where craftsmanship and quality shows."

So which is right, fast or slow? The answer I came to after some meditation is, "It all depends on the assignment." The contrasting themes of "Entrepreneur" and "Writer's Digest" illustrate this well. "Treps" are not looking to create masterpieces, or even something that will last very long. They recognize we live in a world of constant change and they are merely trying to ride the current wave to shore. Then there will be a new wave to catch. Writers by contrast would like to have their book still being read 100 years from now.

What's your assignment fellow Mountain Taker? Fast paced "Trepping" or slow and steady crafting? Whichever it is "Do you work heartily as for the Lord and not for men" (Col. 3:23) and you will be amazed at what is accomplished.

Fear Of Change Hinders Prosperity

As I reflect on my own experiences in developing my business, I have come to realize that fear of change is the number one obstacle on a person's journey to success.

Anyone you meet will quickly tell you that they want to be successful. Most people are not satisfied with their current life situation. If a person sits in the passenger seat of life and chooses not to drive, they should not be surprised that the ride does not take them where they want to go. To reach your desired destination, not only do you need a plan but you must get in the driver's seat and step on the gas!

Change can be frightening. How can we overcome this fear? First, take a deep breath and remove yourself from distractions. Second, carefully research options. Rely on facts rather than stories and opinions. Listen to your intuition rather than friends and family. This may seem counter-intuitive, but often those closest to us can be very negative about change as an attempt to keep us safe. Third, take action! If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right! This is your life and your happiness we're talking about. Right?

It is far EASIER to sit back, grumble about our own unhappiness, and blame others for it than it is to take responsibility for making the changes that will bring happiness to us. I have faced that many times in my life. Others have grumbled in and out of my presence about successes that I have experienced in life. Success does not fall from the sky and land in your lap! Successes are the result of goals, planning, and plenty of focused, hard work. These steps are often overlooked by others.

A silent shift in American culture is turning people away from the entrepreneurial American Dream to the paradigm of entitlement. Where past generations believed that good things come to those who work for it, current generations believe that good things should be given to them because they are human. Instead of respecting successful business men and women, this generation see the successful as evil and oppressive. This blogger and business owner thinks that train of thought is a self-indulgence aimed at making the apathetic feel better about their decision to do NOTHING.

So my message and advice to those looking for a better job or a better life situation is to get focused and don't let the fear of change shackle you in a life less fulfilling. Get out there and do it!

This is why goals are important as they give us something we can see clearly and is reasonably within our grasp. Always focus on your goals, even if you feel that you may be falling behind, never panic. Panic causes fear, and fear is an illusion that binds and constricts. Always remain focused on the straightforward pathway.

The story of the underdog

Over time there have been many different stories of the legendary underdogs and their amazing triumphs over colossal legends. But why is that? Why do these underdogs find their way to the top when the odds seem against them? The reason is simple- determination. They can see their goal- it is not a distant mirage that always evades them. They see it and they want it- and the key is to want it more than everyone else in the competition.

This brings up the old story about the Hare and the Tortious. Though the hare was indeed fast, he lost focus on his goal. If he had remembered what the race was all about he might have kept going instead of stopping. The tortious indeed won, not through speed but through persistence. What mindset does a technophobe need to be succesful in online marketing?

In order for you to succeed in setting up your own business, working from home, you need to be focused and have the mind- set of a winner.

Having the right frame of mind is without a shadow of a doubt the starting point for anything in life, not just working from home as an internet marketer.

A strong belief and confidence in yourself will allow you to face whatever challenges you have in life, and come out on top.

If you don't believe in yourself then no one else will, unfortunately.

Quite frankly if you don't, then why should anyone else? (Unless, they are family obviously)

Before you think this is a harsh statement let me explain.

If YOU don't believe in yourself, will the belief from others change you and allow you to achieve what it is you wanted??

Sorry to say but the answer is a big fat NO (well, as long as you aren't related to a lepricorn)

Now if you did believe in yourself and others believed in you too then that's a different matter. The support and help they provide, with their belief in you, will only add to yours and amplify your efforts in achieving your goals.

If you are a confident person then this is not an issue. BUT not everyone is the same in life, and you may be a person that isn't confident. You may think because of your lack of knowledge or experience in something new, then you can't do what it is you want to do. Or you maybe the type that on the surface portrays to be confident, but internally isn't.

Either way the little exercise below will be useful for you!!!!!

The starting point is to look in the mirror and take a hard look at you. After you have finished checking out your best poses, and got your hair looking the way it should, you need to use your 'minds eye' and ask yourself, WHAT? (And be honest please)

What do I really feel about myself, my life, my family?

What have I achieved in life so far?

What did I really want to achieve?

What external forces have, and are restricting me from doing everything I wanted?

What issues and factors have determined my life so far?

What do I want ?

What do I need to do, in order to get what I want ?

The purpose of all this is not to depress you, but for you to really think about analyzing your life and WHAT factors have got you here, reading this report.

My previous job was that of an area manager. In this role I had to conduct a lot of training, coaching, meetings etc etc, which was fine because my wife, Elaine, always tells me how I love the sound of my own voice. But I was even happier when my staff would make notes of what I was saying. Why ? Because that way I knew my 'words of wisdom?' were not falling on deaf ears.

It is a known fact that a good proportion of what is said to you, in life, finds its way out of the other ear. This is usually because you are being fed information you don't really want to listen to (or think you have little interest in), you know… like the times you were in school lessons 'learning' about algebra, or the times when the other half 'nags' you over something petty. It's in one ear and straight out of the other (usually to Elaine's annoyance). Whereas when you read or write the same thing then not as much is lost in the 'void' (excluding algebra of course). Your brain is an amazingly powerful computer which a lot of people unfortunately don't take FULL advantage of as much as what they should (including me!!!).

If you don't believe me then try this little simple exercise. Get a friend to pick out 2 words from a dictionary. They have to be long, hard and not commonly used (words that is!). Read both of them, but write 1 down on a piece of paper. After 24hrs see which one you can remember. The odds are it will be the one you wrote down. Why? Because you have engaged your brain in the process!!

If you are really serious in learning something new like internet marketing, and starting a new life for yourself, then I need you to make notes, starting right now please. This exercise will be the foundation to your success, trust me.

Take 10 minutes to write down WHAT you feel about yourself, your life, your family, your achievements and your goals. Only when you have done this can you move onto the next exercise. Think of it as needing to put your trousers on before putting your shoes on. You wouldn't do it the other way round, for the obvious reasons, would you?

The WHAT exercise definitely needs to be done before the next exercise.

So far you have laid down the 'foundation to the house'. Now it's time to start putting the 'house on top of the foundation'.

So the next exercise is ………

To really dig into this exercise, the next step is to now look back in that mirror (get your best pose again) and ask yourself WHY?

Why do I feel this way?

Why have/haven't I achieved what I wanted to?

Why is my life the way it is?

Why do I really want to achieve what I want to?

(Why does Richard Branson own his own frikin island, and I don't?)

Pick that pen back up and write down your thoughts, again spending 10 minutes doing this please. Trust me there is a point to all of this self analysis!!!!

Well now that you have an idea on WHAT has got you to the stage you are at now in life, and WHY, naturally the next step to start thinking about is 'putting the roof on top of the house'. The next step is to now work out HOW.

How can you move on from where you are?

Yes, it's time for the mirror again, lol.

How do I want to be viewed by myself?

How do I want your friends and family to view me?

How do I/can I do this?

How can I achieve what I want?

How do I want to be remembered?

Again take 10 minutes to write down your answers.

Now I do understand that with everything life has, and is, throwing your way it is not surprising that people don't really get the time to self reflect as much as what they should. So once you have written down your WHAT, WHY & HOW exercise you need to review your notes at least 3 times a week, so you can stay focused on wanting to make a better life for yourself. You can spare 10 minutes 3 times a week can't you?? If not then use your bath-room break to do it (and don't tell me you don't have time for the bathroom)

Because if you don't review your notes, you will just fall back into the mediocrity of life and carry on as you are,

You know, in that job you don't really like,

In that pay bracket you don't really like,

In that traffic jam, to and from work, you don't really like,

With that boss you don't really like.

I want to help you start your own business, an online marketing business that will give you the financial freedom to enjoy the life you have. I want to help you to create a life style you have only ever dreamed off, and provide you with more money than you can spend.

It's a horrible cliché, but I am going to say it anyway, 'it take 2 hands to clap'.

I want to help you get to this stage, but you need to follow the instructions step by step without dismissing anything. And before the sceptics get on their 'soap box' I want to make it clear, I do not want a penny from you!!! So please relax, get that thought out of your head and read on.

Going through the above exercise is so important because a home based business needs the extra motivation, commitment and time investment from you. No one is there behind you showing you what to do, day in day out. You need to know where you want to be, where you are now and how you are going to get to the finish line.

Without a true analysis of your life if you go straight into trying to make money online you WILL be building your business on a shallow foundation, a shallow foundation that can and WILL collapse.

To move forward you NEED goals in life, because without them we achieve nothing!! By achieving goals you are being successful a step at a time.

Again the importance of writing your goals down can't be stressed enough, but they have to be SPECIFIC!!

For example, having a goal of getting a better car and saying I want a 4x4 is not good enough.

Specifically I want a black BMW X6, with 22 inch rims, blacked out windows, in automatic with cream leather interior and reversing sensors etc etc.

Do you get my point?

You have to visualize your goals, only then will you get it. All the greats, from Mohammed Ali to Usain Bolt to Tiger Woods to Roger Federrer visualized what they wanted, practiced and put their thoughts and plans into action before achieving their greatness. It didn't just come to them. They went to the ring, track, golf course and tennis court not with the thought of 'Let's see how things go', they went with one thought, ' I WILL WIN'. They had the confidence to know they could achieve what they wanted.

So with this view let's review the various aspects of your life, which can be broken, generally, into 5 segments:

Your family life

Your personal life

Your business / work life

Your spiritual life

Your social life

Remember the concept of being specific, well use that and write down your goals for the above areas.

WHAT do you want?.... for your family, personal life, business / work life etc

WHY do you want it?.... for your family, personal life, business / work life etc

HOW will you do it?.... for your family, personal life, business etc / work life etc

To summarize this exercise you need to write down a statement on your goals putting all five areas together. A statement of WHAT you want to achieve specifically in your family, your personal, business, spiritual and social life. This again is something that you need to look at once a week to stay focused on what you want to achieve. Putting bullet point notes throughout the house, in the car, at work etc is a simple way of making sure your notes don't just gather dust and not get worked on (hopefully). What this whole exercise will do is build the solid foundation to your business / life success. So please don't dismiss this as something you don't really need to do. Seriously this will pay big dividends to your long term success. Hopefully you may remember the fact that from my Bio page I have seen firsthand the importance of working for a company that focused on its long term success and seeing how the business just grew and grew from nothing to a billion dollar empire. The competitors, who just focused on the short term gain, were just left behind in our dust. I want to help you build a business with long term prosperity that will allow you to get paid over and over again.

'Seriously Shiraz this may be all good in theory, but the reality is that I don't have the time to devote to starting and running my own internet marketing business!!'

Really ?

If you could analyse your daily routine using a typical day from waking up to going to sleep and really dissect it, what would you find? Probably a lot of wasted time here and there, throughout the day. Be brutal and honest with your analysis. How much time is being wasted? This could be time in front of the TV, travelling to and from work, on the internet, on face book, in the pub, taking the dog for a walk etc etc. Total up this time and what to you get? If the answer is more than 2 hours a day then that's great news!! Because to start this internet marketing business up all you need is around 2 hours a day, to do your research and implementation of what you have learnt and to start building your business, that will eventually work on auto pilot.

Seriously, that is all you need, I kid you not!!

All I am asking you to do right now is swap the time you usually 'waste', for learning and starting your own internet marketing business up. So you can build the life you want and not just live the life you are being forced to live. A life that, in the economic recession we are slowly coming out off, isn't going to get any better in a hurry really!!!

So the reality is that you don't need to make huge sacrifices and leave your job, you just need to utilize your wasted time more efficiently.

So do you still think I am talking sh..., Theoretically ?

An example of my schedule when I started was quite simply,

- Work from 9 - 5

- Family time from 530 - 730

- Weight training 730 - 8

- Online marketing time 8 - 1000

You do need to have a 'business head' on to starting this business. You may be the boss, but you still need to hold yourself accountable for doing what you said you were going to. Devote yourself to each segment above completely. What I mean by this is that in your family time don't be checking out you emails or washing the car etc. Do what you said and spend time with the family, quality time. When you say you are going to start working on your business at 8 don't start at 815 then check face book out or some emails, because by the time you know it's probably closer to 9 and you have not moved any further in your business development.

You can make or break habits, all it takes is 30 days!! So repeat this every day and then watch your success habits kick in.
